Recently, I started dating a sober person. I am completely new to recovery, but they have been in it for over 20 years. We recently had a fight and triggered each other, and now they aren’t speaking to me. I don’t want to cause any problems for their sobriety, but this is also really hard for me. how do I respect their need for space, while respecting my need to talk it through.

Hi jmshaw,
If you feel that something you might say or do around the person that would jeopardize their sobriety, you would probably benefit from trying a few Al-Anon meetings. We recommend that you try at least six meetings, because each meeting is a bit different from the next. You can find a meeting in your area at al-anon.org
Hope this helps, BuddyT
