Hello...my name is Michael and I've been drinking for the last 20 years. I know its going to kill me if I do not quit. I know I will lose my friends and family if I do not. I drank yesterday but I want to quit but have no idea how. Please help me with any advice.

Hi Michael. I am new to this forum. I think it's great that you've taken this initiative to put yourself out there and ask for help. I also had a drink last night (quite a few actually) and this morning I feel like crap. This morning I didn't do my stretching and instead ate a gross egg sandwich (tasted good, but it was gross). I've taken a bunch of advil and am pounding coffee and water. So, I don't think that is helpful... I just wanted you to know that I'm in a similar boat and that you can feel free to reach out to me (I guess you can do that through here?).
I think it's good (for me) to have a plan for the day/night, and not drinking be a part of that plan. So, my plan for today is: I will work from my computer, I will eat a healthy lunch, I will do my stretches this afternoon, I will play a game with my daughter, I will help make a good dinner, I will do the dishes, I will watch a movie this evening and have a cup of tea, I will read for a little while and then sleep, I will wake up tomorrow feeling like a million bucks - and I will not have a drink.
If I don't actively think about my day like that, then when 6pm rolls around I'll have a drink in my hand.
Not sure if this helps, but I wanted to let you know that I'm proud of you for getting started.

Hi Doc, That’s a good plan. You are correct In that to not drink, you have to plan not to drink. Good luck in making that plan work! Mark - Jeyu

I see a number of us here in the same boat (me, mikeread28, doc74). I also drank yesterday, and I know I'm on the road to a premature death. The liquor stores where I am have opened, and I need to convince myself it's important not to go. I want a good night's sleep. I want to wake up not feeling sick. I want to not lose everything I have.
I don't know if it's ridiculous to suggest that somehow we can do this together, as I have no confidence in myself at the moment. I'm going to keep checking this forum through the day, and maybe I'll find something that'll help. Best of luck to all of us.
I suppose this might be a more sensible post if I'd checked the dates. I see I'm responding to old content. So be it...

Hello!
I am new to this forum and haven’t had any experience with getting help for addiction before. If you’ve found any good resources or friends on here I would love to connect.
