Quote for Reflection:
“You think your pain and your heartbreak are unprecedented in the history of the world, but then you read. It was books that taught me that the things that tormented me most were the very things that connected me with all the people who were alive, or who had ever been alive.” ― James Baldwin

Quote for Reflection:
By three methods we may learn wisdom: First, by reflection, which is noblest; Second, by imitation, which is easiest; and third by experience, which is the bitterest.”

Quote for Reflection:
Gratitude therefore takes nothing for granted, is never unresponsive, is constantly awakening to new wonder and to praise of the goodness of God. For the grateful person knows that God is good, not by hearsay but by experience. And that is what makes all the difference.” ― Thomas Merton

Quote for Reflection:
“{. . . H}ave patience with everything unresolved in your heart and to try to love the questions themselves as if they were locked rooms or books written in a very foreign language. Don’t search for the answers, which could not be given to you now, because you would not be able to live them. And the point is to live everything. Live the questions now. Perhaps then, someday far in the future, you will gradually, without even noticing it, live your way into the answer.”
― Rainer Maria Rilke, Letters to a Young Poet

Quote for Reflection:
“We know that God is everywhere; but certainly we feel His presence most when His works are on the grandest scale spread before us; and it is in the unclouded night-sky, where His worlds wheel their silent course, that we read clearest His infinitude, His omnipotence, His omnipresence.”
― Charlotte Brontë, Jane Eyre

Reflecting on what I've learned from Ron's email as he explained several of the Steps:
"Substituting virtues for our vices is another way of looking at what we're doing when we do Step 6 and 7:
In some areas of the US, folks took to identifying their character faults with one of the seven deadly sins and working to replace them with the corresponding virtue. The sins with their corresponding virtue:
pride/humility greed/charity envy/kindness gluttony/temperance wrath/patience sloth/diligence"

Quote for Reflection:
“I am an expression of the divine, just like a peach is, just like a fish is {. . . just like a flower, a sunrise, the sunset.} I have a right to be this way... I can't apologize for that, nor can I change it, nor do I want to...
We will never have to be other than who we are in order to be successful... We realize that we are as ourselves unlimited and our experiences valid. It is for the rest of the world to recognize this, if they choose.”
― Alice Walker, The Color Purple

Quote for Reflection:
Therefore be at peace with God, . . . And whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life, keep peace in your soul.
With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.” ― Max Ehrmann, Desiderata: A Poem for a Way of Life

These are important virtues that I am trying to pursue. Some days its easier than others, but I think I'm getting there.

Quoting this before I forget where I found it this evening . . .Priceless Pearls section:
I (Says: Jeyu0422) have posted this before, but it deserves saving. It has become my vision of recovery, the person that I strive to be. Originally written by Dot in a post to Blue describing "happy and evolved people".
"Honesty with themselves and others comes naturally. Accountability is part of their fabric and they resolve issues as they come up. They don't avoid and procrastinate....fear based reactions. They own their part in all interactions in life and solve problems quickly and efficiently. They are confident and secure. They are inherently responsible with work and family. They are mature. They would never do anything that could hurt the ones they love. They just wouldn't."
