Well, thought I'd join the party. I figured it was time for a new screen name. I wanted "A Fir Piece" but it won't allow caps or spaces or non-alphanumeric characters (which invalidates "Mark_LA" anyway). "firpeace" can mean several things. Spelled literally, it means the peace I find when walking through a fir forest (see avatar). It could also mean I've come a "fur piece" (a good distance) since I started on my sobriety journey. Or it could mean that I wear a "fur piece," although I don't Y'all can call me FP for short, if that makes it easier From what I can see so far, the new site has vastly improved functionality compared to the old one. I hope it can attract enough new members (or returning old ones) to make a go of being a useful recovery resource. Hope everyone's having a terrific sober day!

It will take me a while to figure out what I am doing... I don't mean in my quest for sobriety, that is obvious. I meant in general, where to post what to read. Just registered today, as the ambers on the old site are slowly going out. I have not been there too long yet feel a sense of nostalgia and sadness. J

Hey Mark, I just wanted you to know that in your profile you can change how your screen is displayed. So if you wanted "FirPeace," you can change it there.

Hi BuddyT, is it possible for members (as opposed to the admin) to create a new "Board" here? I was just looking around the old place and trying to decide what might be important to bring with us to our new home. There's a post (thread) from Daryl in the "12 Step Recovery" category I wanted to copy and paste here somewhere... just not sure where to put it. So I see there are "Boards" which look like they correspond to our former "Categories" but I can't figure out how to create a new "Board" called 12-Step Recovery.
Thanks again for finding us a new home!

Wow, that was quite a jump and I dropped the horse trophy in the canyon between here and there, but at least my flower made it. TuTu, did you happen to purchase the replacement warranty when you bought me that horse trophy? If not, I'm gonna have to post a sign in lost and found.

we are such a great bunch. Starting a new site it's great. Buddy T has done such a great job. So we all need to make the effort to make this place rock. We don't want to lose out altogether.
please when you feel comfortable join us. Tell us your story. I gave up drinking 18 months next week. I couldn't have done it without this place.

Hi there! Of course I don't mind, thanks for the warm welcome:) I just hope this is the correct way to reply!? I'm not good with technology? What a great bunch of people y'all are, I can so see how much it helps (btw congrats to you) ! I actually had no idea that posting the one message would bring so much kindness and encouragement... to the point that I've been sober since(miracle)! I will certainly be here- and I will be happy to share my story as soon as the cobwebs begin to clear. Many thanks, Lou PS: Thanks Buddy T:)

Welcome Lou! That is awesome that you've been sober now for ... however many days ... I had to go over to the old place and look for your post. Yes, the forum is still there, as of 5:40 pacific time Tuesday. It feels a little like waiting for - okay I know this is NOT the same thing, at all!! - but it reminds me of terminal illness, when it's just a matter of time, and waiting for that last breath so we can finally begin to grieve. You know the end is coming but it still hurts...
But I digress... I'm glad you've made the move with us Lou! I got my sober start here on the forum. We're just a bunch of alcoholics trying to help each other stay sober, and it's pretty powerful.
