Here comes the dreaded December. Why do you dread December? December has always been the month that I drink too much.

Robert, How are you? Are you abstaining or just cutting back? By the way, have you ever considered sobriety simply for the sake of simply becoming healthier. Really, changing your drinking habits for someone else, kind of gives you an out to drink because of someone else or any other stressor. Just a thought. Good luck.

That's great Robert. Continue whatever is working for you. In the meantime, perhaps you are reading other members' stories, advice, and updates. Hope you find that encouraging. Don't forget to check in at more active online forums, since you are unable or would prefer not to attend AA meetings. That interaction may help your daily effort to abstain. Good luck.

Hi Pam, Yes I'm reading a lot of post from other members post and other online forums. I love the interaction and I can say it really helps me a lot. I did plan on going to AA meeting but I went for a vacation and it is very helpful.

Another article about the holidays: www.verywell.com/dealing-with-the-holidays-when-new-to-recovery-67405Three key components: Thanksgiving is usually a time when we get together with family and friends, to share our food and company with each other. This is not any different than what we learn in recovery. We take stock of what we have and are grateful for it. Remember, "A grateful heart will never drink." We then share what we have with others. This is an essential part of recovery. We celebrate life, a birth, on Christmas. We can learn the rewards of embracing our spirituality and humanity. New Year's is a letting go of the past year and embracing the new one. . . . {Make} that resolution to remain clean and sober, and to do what is necessary to achieve that.
