Hello to All from Texas.
This afternoon was one of those Chamber of Commerce days in South Texas, 75 degrees (F), not a cloud in the sky, just perfect. So I decided to go for a nice drive in the country. Nowadays, my part of Texas is not dirt roads, cactus, and cowboys; it's freeways, bumper to bumper traffic, and housing developments everywhere. But after about an hour's drive out of suburbia, I found a winding road through the National Forest, put the top down, and really enjoyed myself. I have come to the conclusion that I was a much safer driver drinking. Maybe I should write a country song:
Driving down the road one day,
It started me to thinkin'
I don't care what no one say,
I'm a better driver drinkin'.
When I was drinking, I wouldn't drive even one mile over the speed limit for fear of getting stopped. Now, I consider speed limit signs mere suggestions. 35 mph curve ahead? Yeah right; I accept the challenge. The freedom of not having or needing to have alcohol in my system to function is just that, Freedom. Sobriety has given me the ability to truly enjoy those moments in life where just being alive brings happiness. Not that everyday is filled with roses, but I have experienced a number of those "happy to be alive" moments within the last several months.
I stopped on the side of the road to write this post to whoever might see this and say, "I need to try one more time," I lost count long ago, but I probably quit 100 times before it worked. It doesn't matter that the first 100 didn't because the last one did. There is definitely something to this sobriety. If you haven't tried it, I would highly recommend that you do so.
Now, I'm going to slow down a little on the way home. I have to stay safe if I'm going to launch that country music career (and that last curve brought a touch of fear to the happiness).
Later, friends.
