Step 3...probably the most misunderstood and misapplied step in the program.
We do not turn our will and life over in Step 3. We don't even have to believe in a God in order to take Step 3. If we did turn our life over to the care of God in Step 3, we'd have a three step program. You turn your life over, God runs the show and Bamm! you're done with the recovery process.
In Step 1 we said we did not have enough power to stop drinking on our own.
In Step 2 we were willing to consider that another power could help us.
In Step 3 we made a decision to try and go find that power,
Step 3 is just making the conscious choice (after careful deliberation) to do the neccessary work need to establish a connection with a higher power. We turn our will and life over by doing Steps 4-9.
