Hi Dana I know what you mean about the old forum. And it seems that I'm not the only one with new forum performance anxiety. My posting had greatly diminished on the old forum as I rarely felt I had much to add. I'm trying to come here more often but without more participation I'm afraid this place won't get its momentum going. Oh well. Change is good. On a different note, I am meeting Igotaclue tonight for dinner. I don't know if you remember her but she started about the same time I did almost 3 years ago. We've become cyber friends and are now able to meet up F2F. I'm looking forward to it. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I'd have a friendship that started via the interenet. If you told me I would do that 4 years ago I would have laughed in your face. Well, what do I know? hi dot how did it work out, or have you met up with clue yet. trying to think back remembering the two of you and didn't you guys go at it for a bit like real bad? i sure hope everything went well and that you not reporting back about the meeting is an indication that, well, who knows.

Hi - not sure this is the correct thread to post on. I am three days sober, lost my license, lost my job, am on probation - but am ever thankful no one was hurt when I was arrested for DUI. Live in the middle of nowhere so am using online forums to keep in touch with the world. Thank you for listening. This is not my first rodeo with the drink - but it is my last.

Hello. Welcome strongpines. If you go to the Help and Support page . . . There is a Welcome Thread. However, this is just as good of a place to start as any. You will find individuals at different stages of sobriety here.... Some folks drop in every day and others every once in a while. Many have known one another for quite some time because they've moved here from another forum. (You'll see that as you read through the other posts.)
Either way, you will find a caring group of people here to support you and encourage you on your road to recovery.
Stay connected!

Hi Strongpines, Welcome! This is the perfect thread to post on because you sound very positive. Three days is a big deal because it shows commitment and a desire to change your life for the better. One of our posters formerly known as Mark_LA cautioned me early on about the "built in forgetter" of alcoholism. The addicted brain will try to talk you back into another drink, that this time will be different, but I'll bet you've been to that rodeo before too. I sure have. Yesterday was a year and a half for me, but I remember very well where you are now. Keep that positive attitude and you can change those three days into a lifetime of sobriety. Mark/Jeyu

Hi, strongpines, welcome to the forum! This thread is as good as any other. The important thing is that you posted. Sorry to hear about the relapse and slip. But stuff happens. I'm glad you're back on track. I relapsed countless times before I finally made it. In another thread you wrote: "I was sober in the past for six years and did follow AA during that time. I know that the program works for many and I will not speak ill of it. But I will not work that program again, instead I am using mindfulness and meditation. Have had one slip in two months - so will continue with this way."
I use vipassana (mindfulness) and mettā (loving kindness) meditations daily these days. I originally used to 12 Steps, although not within the fellowship, of AA. So you just may be on the right path for you now. Stay with us a while and get to know us. We're like one big extended family here. Dysfunctional maybe, but family none the less! Again, glad you made it back from the abyss and happy you found us. ron

Hi Ron - Dysfunctional is what I'm used to! It is great to beable to check in here. A positive day so far and find myself really enjoying how clear I can view the woods now! The dog and I are heading out for a walk and a chat.

Hello strongpines, welcome to the forum! I love how the internet connects us, near and far. Help is just a few mouse clicks and tap tap tap on the keyboard away. I've been a bit pre-occupied in my f2f life so I have a lot of catching up to do around here. I'm just now reading this post from a week ago, when you and the dog were heading out for a walk and a chat. I hope it was lovely! And I hope you are still here, and doing well.

Hey Dana, Just writing to say hello! PT Hello back! How are you? I just got back this afternoon from a looooooong road trip. It took us more than 8 hours to drive there on Friday, and we stayed all of about 24 hours, then started our trip home. We broke up the trip home though, going about half way and staying in a nice hotel, then the rest of the way today. I'm beat! Just trying to catch up a little before I hit the sack (extra early) and I'm glad I saw your hello. :-) Hope you're doing well!

My puppy just curled up at my side and fell asleep. So, at the moment I'm feeling rather content. . . . Your trip sounds like a great get away. . . I used to do that every once in a while . . . driving home to Columbus. . . . Now that I'm older . . .I need to stay at least a couple of nights to recuperate from such a long trip.
Take care and glad to hear from you.
Enjoy the week.

Thank you Pam! I hope you're enjoying your week as well. I found out yesterday, we will get to have our great-nephews for an over-nighter either Friday night or Saturday night. Can't wait!! I love having those little guys around. They are 3 and 6 years old. And every time they say 'aunt Dana' it just melts my heart. They are very lucky little boys. They have all four great grandma's still living, and one great grandpa. Both sets of grandparents. And a plethora of aunts, uncles, and cousins, on both sides of the family. That they spend time with *regularly*!!! I can't even imagine what that must be like. For the most part it was just me and mom when I was growing up, after brother moved in with dad. Anyway, I just love my in-laws. I'm very very blessed.
